I didn't realise this feature was so new. I went to the NHS Choices website for the first time a few days ago, as my old surgery told me I needed to change as I had moved, and, of the three GPs nearest me according to the website, I chose the one with the positive comment someone had added.

I think closest-first is always going to make sense, as it's always going to be a significant factor in the choice, and in practice both my old and my new surgery designate a catchment area that I must be in, hence why I had to change.

Hi Paul
There is further comparative information on the listings page of GPs allowing you to compare the practices in the area against a range of data collected, including national patient survey results, opening times, location, parking etc... For the example you show above, the page is:

http://www.nhs.uk/Scorecard/Pages/Results.aspx?OrgType=1&Coords=1852%2c5293&TreatmentID=0&PageNumber=1&PageSize=0&TabId=31&SortType=1&LookupType=1&LocationType=1&SearchTerm=nw5+2ra&DistanceFrom=5&SortByMetric=0&TrustCode=&TrustName=&DisambiguatedSearchTerm=&LookupTypeWasSwitched=False&MatchedOrganisationPostcode=&MatchedOrganisationCoords=&ServiceIDs=&ScorecardTypeCode=&NoneEnglishCountry=&HasMultipleNames=False&OriginalLookupType=1&Filters=&TopLevelFilters=

I agree the right hand side information is a little brief. Have you any suggestions about what information you would like there re number of GPs?
Thanks
John
